Practical information
The Norwegian Postal Museum at Maihaugen is within walking distance of Lillehammer town centre and the train station. A signposted walking route to Maihaugen leads past the hospital.

Parking
There is a large car park north of the main building.
Parking fee: NOK 44 per day (daily, 7:00 am–5:00 pm).
Parking is not permitted between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am, except during events.
Accessible parking
Two spaces are located closest to the main entrance, for visitors with a valid disability parking permit.
Motorhomes
A designated parking area is available next to the main car park.
Electric vehicle charging
Six charging points are available in the main car park. Prices and information are displayed on the chargers.
Alternative parking
During busy periods, the main car park may be full. Alternative options include:
- Car park across Maihaugvegen (towards the hospital – available during school holidays in summer)
- Along Bankgata
- Parking in the town centre (approx. 15 minutes’ walk)
- Håkons Hall (approx. 20 minutes’ walk)
- Strandtorget (approx. 25 minutes’ walk)
Public transport
You can take a local bus from Lillehammer bus station to a stop near Maihaugen. See timetables.
Food and drink
At the Maihaugen Café in the Visitor Centre, you can enjoy cakes, waffles and a variety of lunch dishes with a beautiful view of Garmo Stave Church. The café is open year-round and follows Maihaugen’s opening hours.
There are also several places to eat throughout the open-air museum.
